USB device umount takes a long time

Hi all,

I've just noticed that cp a 100M to a USB (2.0) device and umount it takes a rather long time! Up to 5+ minutes. Of course it could be the device itself. But there is degradation since last night. Anybody notice this or something similar?

Re: USB device umount takes a long time

Maybe the 100MB file wasn't copied immediately, so when you unmount it has to wait for cp to finish?

I understand that. But it should take nowhere near what's taking now. Running 'sync' manually takes a long time as well.

Have you tried with a different USB drive?

Re: USB device umount takes a long time

Just tried another USB key and it's much faster. Under 2 min for the same file.
