KDE announced the availability of its Software Compilation 4.4, "Caikaku".
You will find all upstream changes and new features on their website. As usual we provide
the latest packages for Arch.
Unfortunately this update will need some user intervention due to a pacman
limitation. Therefore you have to update in two steps:
% pacman -Sy --asdeps qt
% pacman -Su
Be aware of the following problems that might occur:
* The usage of bitmap fonts like terminus will be broken when using the
proprietary nvidia driver.
* If you update from virtuoso 5 as nepomuk backend as it was provided in
the kde-unstable or testing repository you will have to convert
your database or simply remove
~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/virtuosobackend. The latter
is of course only recommend if you had not used nepumuk's tagging and
comment features.
* In case of any error, try using a new user account or (re)moving KDE's
configuration which can be found at ~/.kde4 /tmp/kde-* /var/tmp/kdecache-*.
Akonadi saves its data at ~/.config/akonadi and ~/.local/share/akonadi

Hm, according to mirrorcheck the most up-to-date mirrors are in the states - synched not even three hours ago.
So keen as I am I stick'em into my pacman.conf and run pacman -Sy but no show! Soooo, Tyriel, which mirrors are you getting it from???

Unless a mirror managed to sync within the 30mins before the announcement was made... he is not... (or he used testing).

Cheers, Allan. Then again, who knows? Perhaps he is the wizard of Oz? I've heard they're ahead of our time down there... (okay, ban me for bad jokes).

I'm not complaining, or something like that. Just want to report this:
error: failed retrieving file 'qt-4.6.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.archlinux.org : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
warning: failed to retrieve some files from extra
error: failed to commit transaction (File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access))
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

I let my nieces and nephews use my Internet connection while I was on holidays and now I am capped and I am only half way through my month. So I am still updating painfully slowly Will be updating my plan for the month in the morning.
However I was able to download the packages from ftp.archlinux.org (extra), I don't normally use this mirror but I will be updating the rest of my machines manually while I have the day off.

Well, some insane script messed up the repo. Therefore some files are missing.

Is that the reason why I'm getting:
warning: cannot resolve "libssh", a dependency of "kdebase-runtime"
:: the following package(s) cannot be upgraded due to unresolvable dependencies:
kdebase-runtime
Offline
and many more,
the missing packages can still be found in testing though.
*edit*
working now. Great work, thank you so much

I got the qt package from testing ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/testing/os/x86_ … pkg.tar.gz
But I'm having some issues with the kde upgrade: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 76#p704876

If people with kde 4.3 perform a pacman -Syu without seeing this thread will it bork their current kde install? If so this should this be on the front page news of arch website? Just wondering
Offline
It shouldn't break anything if you don't force it. Pacman will just refuse to update. The front page is currently broken and I will post the news item there as soon as this is fixed.
Some packages were missing at first due to some cleanup script running mad. This is hopefully fixed now. (What a great day this is)
However: If you don't force an update nothing should be wrong; just wait. But at least you have to update Qt first.

UPDATED! All work fine.

When trying to -Syu pacman says that kdelibs requires phonon (i don`t have it installed).
Phonon in repo is 4.3.80. This makes me think it`s a RC or something.
I marked the package "out of date", not sure if it`s ok to update now.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

You must have Phonon installed, it is some kind of KDE API (am I right), but it was a bigger surprise for me, when I am sure of Phonon installed... Trying pacman -Sy --asdeps qt didn't helped, I will have to wait :-)
Thanks for the GNU/Linux. EDIT:Thanks for the GNU/Linux, Linux guru, for the manuals and wikis.
