[solved]multiple soundcards

hi,

i have two soundcards: the internal card of my laptop and an usb card connected to the dock of the laptop.
is there a command that let me set the default sound card? at the moment i have to unload both modules and then reload the module for the usb card, so that it becomes card0, i.e. the default one. that's not a good solution since it fails, if the card is in use. is it possible to switch cards on the fly without closing applications that have a card in use? could this be done with the aid of pulseaudio?

Re: [solved]multiple soundcards

sorry, i guess it didn't make myself clear enough. i need hotpluging:

.) laptop is not connected to the dock -> internal card is the only sound, therefore the default. that's fine of course.
.) i connect my laptop to the dock -> card1, the usb sound card, appears. i would need now a script or command that change card1 to the default card. preferably without having to close down all audio applications.

Re: [solved]multiple soundcards

i solved my problem with pulseaudio:
created a virtual soundcard that forwards all audio streams to each available card. you can create this card in paprefs. finally i set the "simultaneous output" as fallback via pavucontrol.
works perfect!
