Re: asus eee 1005ha and arch linux

A couple of observatations from an install today.

Firstly, the ethernet (wired) card not only didn't work, but trying to set it up under Arch resulted in no other system being able to find the card either.  There's a thread on the forums about this.  It seems that multiple reboots eventually bring the card back.  (There were suggestions about removing the battery and other things, but it seems random--that is, removing the battery wouldn't necessarily fix the problem for me--I tried some other things as well, enabling/disabling the card in BIOS, etc.)

However, it seems, at least for me, that it would just randomly show up again after a few reboots.  This is an Asus 1005HA-M, with the AR8132 card.

There is, however, a newer boot.iso.  If you go to the archboot directory on a mirror.  If you get the 2010-03-1.iso
it can be dd'ed directly to a USB and there are no ethernet problems.

Aside from that, the wiki article is good, though rather than two finger scrolling (most of the wiki was taken from the the 1000HE), you have to use that one finger scroll thing at the right of the touchpad.

For me, after installing HAL, I didn't have to do any configuration for the touchpad, tapping and scrolling just worked
Aside from the issue with the ethernet card, it works a treat, sound, webcam, wireless worked out of the box.

Because of that ethernet issue, though I would advise against using the 2009.08 install and use the 201.03-1 instead

I'm posting this from the Asus1005HA.  big_smile.
