Hi,
The package libgphoto2 (2.1.4-2) does not contain my camera. So, I had to compile the new version (2.1.5) myself. After installed it, I dont know if I have to do something else, but when I run gthumb or gtkam, I still can't see my camera on the list!
Anyone knows what I have to do?
Thanks!

Hi murpheus40.
First check out the following very recent article about cameras under LInux:
"Use Your Digital Camera with Linux"
http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/lin … gicam.html
Now for a few tips:
1. Check that the USB camera is recognized after it's been plugged in. You can check the devices file:
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
or you can run usbview (an Arch Linux package).
2. Even if you can't get gthumb or gtkam to work right now, you can download the files directly using gphot2. This is nicely described in the article referenced above.
3. You might find that your camera is not well supported by ghoto2. For one of my cameras this meant that the USB connection was lost and it was necessary to replug the camera in to work with additional commands (e.g., doing a complete file list dropped the connection after the listing was complete).
4. Your camera IS supported by gphoto2. See:
http://www.gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php
5. The previous tips may not have gotten you to your goal. There's a lot of good information about setting up USB cameras under LInux using gphoto2 at:
"Digital Camera Support for UNIX, Linux and BSD"
http://www.teaser.fr/~hfiguiere/linux/digicam.html
"Configuring a USB digital still camera on Debian"
http://jace.seacrow.com/tech/linux/usbcam
"How do I get my USB digital camera to work under Linux?"

Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for your reply! I just forgot to mention Archlinux recognized my camera as a USB PTP-class camera and it works fine! My question was when I compiled the new libgphoto2 (version 2.1.5), then why gthumb does not see it on the list (CX7220) ? But maybe I should not care since my camera works anyway....
