xfce & gnome parallel installation

hi ,
just wondering if it is recommendable having more than one WM installed - how much do the WMs "screw up" each others settings?
i wouldnt mind using thunar as my default browser but since i installed xfce first - after i install gnome will nautilus take over ( for example when using firefox to open up the download folder ).
would appreciate any tips regarding this on how to do this with as few conflicts as possible.
thanks in advance!

Re: xfce & gnome parallel installation

DE(You're referring to desktop environments, not window managers) are completely independent of each other. The only thing that will happen is you will have both the applications from each DE installed but you can always remove the ones you don't want manually.

Re: xfce & gnome parallel installation

I have gnome, xfce4 and awesome on the same arch installation. It works good. Some things are to set like you said (prefered file navigator), and the background of xfce4 and gnome are independent and so on. But no installation conflicts.
