Red Version #

When searching for a package on the Arch Linux site, I notice the package version # is in 'red' and I don't know what that means. There is nothing on the page indicating clearly what 'red' means. Does this mean the package is being updated or something completely different? I notice when I filter the 'flagged' packages, the red ones only show but I have no idea why they're flagged and what that means.

It means it's flagged out of date

Ah so once a new version is released, we or someone can simply flag the package to be updated with the latest version, correct?

A bit off topic but how hard is it to create a package myself rather than wait for the dev's? Would this cause major problems down the road? Would I simply use AUR to create my own Postfix package for Arch Linux?

Not that hard, Usually, updating the pkgver and md5sums are the only thing you need to do.

There's the risk that the dev does other changes or bug fixes in addition to the update. If you use pkgrel=0 in your built package, pacman will automatically replace it with the official package once it's in the repo.

You don't need AUR, get the PKGBUILD and build files from abs.

I actually don't see that. When I look at the package, I can see the name of the maintainer but I don't see any options to contact.

Example - Am I missing the contact option or something? Perhaps the maintainer of the package and the devs you speak of are not the same thing?

Please note that flagging the package automatically notifies the maintainer - there is no need to send a separate mail, unless you wish to make additional comments about the package.
