Remove plasma-desktop(Solved)

Latest kde4 has plasma...itis!

Cannot maneuver quickly on my desktiop ...have many steps to perform in order to display even my e-mail!

Please advise how to easily remove the plasma activity on my desktop ....with no X windows as a substitute.  Just kde classic, please.

Email selected via thunderbird has bouncing icon for a long time!!!!!!

Re: Remove plasma-desktop(Solved)

Two things:

1) KDE shouldn't interfere with thunderbird. They are completely independent.

2) You can use kdemod-legacy, but KDE 3.x is not supported anymore. You'll be stuck to the last version forever.

I suggest you try to find your way through the new KDE SC environment. It is very flexible and the default is not that different from KDE 3.x.

Re: Remove plasma-desktop(Solved)

Not only does thunderbird icon bounce for a long time but so do other display items.

Cannot reboot from kde4 desktop.  Have to reset my mobo..baaad!

Cannot remove display windows of plasma items.

Getting desperate to remove plasma forever!
Cannot call up full screen archlinux...have to mess with X.

How to get this monster outa here !

Linus was right...kde4 is a no-no!!!

Cannot boot to kde...have to use twm and xterm...startkde.

A complete mish-mash.

I trusted arch to provide a good upgrade.  What a mistake!

Did I miss the news item?  Why not require that the news item be read before any upgrade occurs during an Syu?

Cannot trust upgrades anymore!!

This is a disaster...................

This is because startup notification seems to be broken with Thunderbird.

https://bugzillafiles.novell.org/attach … ?id=321424 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416053 have a patch for this.

Re: Remove plasma-desktop(Solved)

Checked /var/log/pacman.log and find that mkinitcpio-0.6.3-1 was upgrade, xorg-server,mlt,diffutils,gtk2,which,pciutils,telepathy-qt4.  There were many lib packages also.

I recall that kernel2.6.32.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz was also in the mix but it isn't shown in pacman.log!!!

I will reboot the drive and see what kernel is installed......

KDE4.4 works great here, and has I dare say been similarly been great for a majority of folks out there.

But, you haven't told us anything about your box or about your system-apart from wanting to remove Plasma.  We don't know what drivers you are running, if you had 3rd party plasmoids etc.  We don't know what if any steps you have take to try to get things running in a satisfactory manner.

As posted earlier, if you really want to get rid of Plasma, the only way to do it-is to use the now unsupported KDEmod3.5

Re: Remove plasma-desktop(Solved)

I made an oops initially to get into trouble but don't know what it was but it involved a sync problem.

The second oops was that when I tried to use my backup, the backup didn't boot but the original drive booted.  This threw me off-track.

I later discovered that had occured and was able to dd the backup drive to renew the original drive.

I am back to normal and apologize for the mistrakes!!!!

I am marking this mess as solved!
