What's up with the default key ring in Gnome?

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure what the key ring is, but i find sometimes programs trying to access it and have to enter a password to unlock it.

If I hit "deny" the apps seem to function just fine though so obviously it's not required.

What's it used for? And how can I bypass this screen as a user (pretend i don't know root password) or do i just press deny every time? Or is it useful to unlock it!?

THanks smile - joe at true skater dot io.

Check this out: … g_on_Login

(I use Slim and not GDM, so I edit /etc/pam.d/slim accordingly, same with KDM etc)
