Open Office keeps changing what I write

F***! (sorry)

In years no program has managed to get me so angry. Could someone please tell me…
a) …how to make open office stop changing what I write. Everywhere, all the time, once and for all. I know what I want to type, dammit. No appending the current year after me trying to enter a temperature somewhere, no messing with my caps.
b) …an alternative to OO. All I need is writing simple formatted text and doing a table once in a while. And I don't like to install half of gnome/kde to do so.

Thanks!

Re: Open Office keeps changing what I write

you could try abiword or google docs (an internet application). There's plenty of choices.

Re: Open Office keeps changing what I write

a) There's a menu entry in the Extras Menu called AutoCorrection (or something like that, don't have the English version here). You can disable that (admittedly annoying) behavior there.
b) Abiword comes to mind, I think it does exactly what you described you want smile

Edit: D'oh, too slow again. There's also KOffice, StarOffice, and several other alternatives.

Re: Open Office keeps changing what I write

If all you want is some decently formatted text, then you may have a look at txt2tags in community. All you then need is a simple character-based editor of your liking, vim, emacs, gedit, or else.

Ah, yes, and if you want some really small (even console based) spreadsheed program, have a look at GNU Oleo. It isn't maintained any more, however, as far as I know but it suits most common tasks. There are two of them in the AUR, simple oleo which is curses based and oleo-motif with a Motif-based GUI.

Re: Open Office keeps changing what I write

Thanks, but I already disabled all autocorrecture options, that only solved a small part of the problem.

~ oh god, please - I really need to write: "21.5" into a table, not "21.5.10"… now… ~

(Going with abiword for now, although it's not the right thing to do tables. Koffice tries to pull half of KDE… can't find a package for Staroffice… and google docs sadly is an internet apllication. Guess I'll have to do those stupid tables in html again…)

Into a table? Well, why didn't you say! Whole different ball game that. You need to change the data format smile
