Freeze after update to kernel 2.6.32-9

This happens rather often since I upgraded to 2.6.32-9.

I can't really tell what it is about yet but it seems to either be network related or disk related since it happens for instance when downloading.

It starts to make heavy disk work and then just becomes completely unresponsive after which there is nothing to do but pull the plug.

I have tried with all sorts of logs and dmesg but none show anything weird (at least the freeze happens before anything is visible in the logs).

I will try to investigate further, like trying cable instead of wifi, disk checks some stress tests etc but I was kinda hoping someone knows something more.

There could perhaps be a known gotcha that I missed yikes who knows!?!

Any suggestions for tests fixes whatever are greatly appreciated!

Re: Freeze after update to kernel 2.6.32-9

It happens every time when I when I download something.

Three times in a row with the Fedora DVD after perhaps 10-15% completion and it does not matter which protocol.

Re: Freeze after update to kernel 2.6.32-9

Ok, it seems to be wireless related.

I got around to connecting a cable after which no freeze was possible to provoke.

Driver or hardware... D-Link DWA-556 PCIe.

Thats Atheros right? Would that be ath9k?

Ill look into filing a bug report but probably take a look into the mailing list first.

Re: Freeze after update to kernel 2.6.32-9

I'm having exactly the same problem since the last kernel update, using ath9k for a D-Link DWA-547 (PCI).
I had to downgrade to the previous version, since I rely on wlan here...

Re: Freeze after update to kernel 2.6.32-9

This is interesting... I have been experiencing system freezes as well, and wasn't sure where to start.  It seemed to happen often when using flash and it happened twice when downloading an .iso.  I am also using the Atheros driver.

Any update on this?

Re: Freeze after update to kernel 2.6.32-9

Ok I have experienced a few hard locks in the last 2 days as well...........I was beginning to worry that it was a hardware issue, but you guys have described exactly what I've been experiencing.  I have had to hard shutdown at least 4 times since the update.
My wireless AR9285 uses ath9k as well, so I think we're onto something.

EDIT:
Mine only starting happening on the update for kernel 2.6.33.2-1.
