anthr 998 topic: ALSA, Intel HDA, Azalia, HEADPHONES+SPEAKER same time

hello all, after installing arch on hp pavilion laptop and alsa,alsa-tools
I have sound in my headphones and speakers, which is not got
lspci|grep Audio

ATI Technologies inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
ATI Technologies inc RS880 Audio Device [Radeon HD 4200]

as my kernel is 2.6.32 x64 I've tryed to change the values in modprobe file like this

#
# /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
#

#options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch-intel
#options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-hp
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

still no result,
As u can see. I don't even have the headphone options in my mixer o_O

Same situation with Compaq Presario CQ41.
Same hardware not and audio recognize by udev.
Some Ubuntu forum reported working hardware but it may take some compiling stuff.

No guaranties, but try enabling Message Signaled Interrupts for the PCIe bus for the sound chip:

ewaller@odin:/etc/modprobe.d 1028 %grep msi /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

Add the options line above to the modprobe.conf file and reload the snd-hda-intel module (easy way is to reboot)

It may help, It won't hurt.

Re: anthr 998 topic: ALSA, Intel HDA, Azalia, HEADPHONES+SPEAKER same time

OK, I've tried most of the recipes, but still mute.
What should MSI bring out?
Even the package from aur alsa-driver.hda-intel.hda-codec-realtek didn't had any result.
I was trying to install also catalyst driver, if could lead some relationship to the audio, but it won't compile, some error for the catalyst-utils installation,
I've tried to compile the driver downloaded from Realtek, but gave 2 errors. sad
I'd like to compile the kernel, but I can't remember which patch should be applied. And it isn't said that it will solve.
are aware our devs of this matter?

EDIT

I've tried alsa-driver.hda-intel.hda-codec-realtek-git which brings several modules up, but aplay -l doesn't report any device also

Well first, let me make sure I understand the problem.  I assume that when you plug headphones into the system, they produce sound, but the internal speakers do not shut off.

I would not expect to see a different output in the mixer for the headphones.   Unlike older audio systems where the switch in the headphone jack physically disconnected the internal speakers, now the switch provides a signal to the audio chip to shut off the speaker outputs.   On my Pavillion DV4, that signal was usually missed unless the MSI was enabled.  I also had the problem where the audio would 'studder', endlessly repeating what was in the buffer after a sound event had completed.

Probably this is not exactly the thread, that I should follow. In my case not only headphones are missing, but the entire sound system isn't recognized by udev.

Hello.
any progress??
sad sad
I'm stuck and looking on several web pages couldn't give me nothing but time loss sad
The only page that state working Compaq Presario CQ41 is this post. Nothing states that the computer OP is the same hardware like mine sad
The computer it's crappy and damn much cheap, but it's coming out even without OS, but only win7 drivers can arrange for it.
Any RE (and wrapper) to make win drivers digested by linux tongue. On the other hand hardware maker they should make driver in a layer which won't relay on any OS.

Go complain to the manufacturer. Some hardware just doesn't work with Linux. No idea if that's the case with yours, but if udev won't detect it that's very likely. Bad luck.

Definitely that way. But I got the latop (as stated) for 1500 RM tongue. So probably HP wont sale this hardware out of your Country or other ASEAN countries as well smile I've read Indonesian forums complaining about similar model. But basically a huge flaw to sale so many different hardware assembly under same model.
I believe that someone will pick this issue (if it isn't yet working progress) and get the matter done.
One more point, it would be better for hardware manufacturer to develop drivers in a layer which should be SO independent or a wrapper
to interface that piece of hardware. I think that addressing a port with a certain protocol will reduce headache to many people tongue
<OT on>

this page says solved (use translating tools to read it tongue). Now my problem is the lack of knowledge on compiling a custom kernel to give a try. Also probably to compile it off the native computer, as much ad my daughter won't like to remain without.
I had tried the Linux Mint 9 (Isadora) to see whether it was like those people states regarding the audio, but no luck. The kernel load fine but the rest gets lost some where up to rebooting the laptop sad

EDIT

I installed catalyst package for 3d acceleration, or even the newest kernel setup, now I can see sound modules loaded, but aplay -l exiting with nothing new sad
