Today's I am not able install arch from ftp install (i686). The zlib package has some .xz (or what) and normal is .gz (gzip). The pacman from last install cd can't read this and check integrity so it ends with error. Or just I think this can be the problem 'cause I tried diff mirrors without success and package size is same as my local system....Am I wrong or it is really old pacman problem...

cannot replicate, net install is working fine.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Ok I tried it at different machine with same problem...
Boot from last official release cd (2009.08) and install from ftp mirror...
cca 4 weeks back it was fine. I have checked that this zlib has last update 23th this month.

It would be nice to have a new installer ISO. Now that klibc is gone, it should again be possible. I remember a while back the goal was to release a new ISO after each major kernel release, and we're definitely not keeping up with that.

Hey LukynZ, I'm also having the same problem. Although I'm using 2009.2.

The libarchive package in 2009.02 will not understand .xz compressed packages. 2009.08 should be fine.

If you are using 2009.02 (why the hell should you anyway?) you will need to run pacman -Syu once to update pacman and its deps before launching the installer. The 2009.08 iso should be fine.

Did an FTP install using 2009.08 32bit on Saturday. All went as normal without errors.

Maybe he has the "/dev/archiso doesn't show up" - problem.
I have it if I try to install from usb, too.
