[SOLVED] Ghostscript Printing Problems

Hi all,

I was having problems similar to those outlined in this post and bug report:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=91272
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18339

In essence, the pages being printed by my Canon i560x printer were coming out pure black. I rolled back ghostscript to version 8.70-4 as suggested, but now the printer refuses to print and CUPS returns an error: 'Empty print file!' I can send maintenance commands the printer OK (such as clean print heads), but not any print data. I've tried reinstalling CUPS and my turboprint drivers, to no avail. Anybody got any ideas?

I should mention that ghostscript 8.70-4 worked fine before the update.

Thanks a mill.

Gwasanaethau.

Re: [SOLVED] Ghostscript Printing Problems

Hi all,

I've found a cause and a cure for the problem (in case anyone else was suffering from it). The current turboprint drivers require libpng12 (the old version) in order to work, so I had previously installed this from AUR (alongside libpng14 via the standard method). I didn't realise that ghostscript 8.71-1 had forced an upgrade to the new libjpeg8 libraries too, so rolling back ghostscript to 8.70-4 meant I had to roll back the libjpeg libraries as well (back to version 7), which I didn't do. If I was thinking correctly, I would have thought about this seeing as I needed to use the old libpng libraries anyway. roll Oh well, I know now!

In short, ghostscript 8.70-4 requires libjpeg7 (which is available in AUR).
