Compiz doesnt work

Hey guys. Brand new Arch linux user, and Linux in general for that matter. Im a couple days into the install, had KDE-mod going and felt slow so i just installed xfce4. Im trying to get compiz going in xfce4 and im having the following issue:

Basically when i open ccsm NO setting stick. This is a major problem as im unable to check the boxes that give me borders, resizeable windows, ect. Nothing sticks. Not even when i check them with ccsm open do the options actually enable. And with boxes checked closing ccsm and re opening ccsm the boxes will be unchecked.

Any ideas on how to get this to work? Something crucial im missing here?

Thankyou

P.S. I was doing this according to the wiki. I just didnt make it past the first few steps lol.

Re: Compiz doesnt work

[root@myhost alpha]# fusion-icon
* Detected Session: unknown
* Searching for installed applications...
* NVIDIA on Xorg detected, exporting: __GL_YIELD=NOTHING
* Using the GTK Interface
* Starting Compiz
... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp

Thats what i get when i run fusion-icon if that helps

Re: Compiz doesnt work

Which graphics card and which Xorg driver are you using, might be a compositing problem.

Re: Compiz doesnt work

You should (no, you have to tongue) run every application as user. Except the ones that really need more privileges (pacman for example).

Re: Compiz doesnt work

This is what i get when i run as user instead of root?

How do i look up my graphics and xorg again? Im running Nvidia 8800gts, from the repositories i used the option the guide regarded as "newest cards" when installing drivers. There were 3 options.

Re: Compiz doesnt work

Itl let me run ccsm as user, but options still dont stick. Also i can run "compiz", which screws my windows still lol. But not fusion-icon

cant run fusion-icon from the system xfce menue either. Im imagine its the same permission denied business.

I appreciate the help guys

Re: Compiz doesnt work

just remove /home/alpha/.config/compiz and try again

That did it! I guess i locked myself out of being able to run it lol? Im curious as to what i did wrong to cuase that if anycould could shed some light... For the education factor here. Is it because i installed under root? And if so how does one fix tat because pacman required root?

Thanks alot!
