Ok, I have run through the Wiki 3 or 4 times as well as combing this server, and seem to have no luck at all. I have a Realtek AL662 rev 1 card, that has this output after executing all wiki steps and running aplay -l :
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC662 rev1 Digital [ALC662 rev1 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
So it finds it,
I ran the modprobe lines of modprobe snd-hda-intel and modprobe snd-pcm-oss,
restarted alsa and added it to rc.conf in the daemons, as well as the previous two in Modules(),
I added the options snd-hda-intel device=0 to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf,
I even got the aplay test file to play earlier.
But that has yet to translate to playback, mplayer, nor flash, nor rhythmbox can get sound to the output.
I have set mixer levels up and unmuted.
(had this card working in Ubuntu and OpenSolaris so I know it functions.)
I have done what it asked, and am at a loss. Ran alsaconf 5 times, added myself to the group audio, and can't see what else to do.

2 months before I had the same problem with my onboard intel audio card
it had sound on start and end of the session but nothing from music players.
in my situation the sound was lost after installation of flashplugin and till now I don't know what I had to do to fix it.
I am an anarchist! Wherefore I will not rule and also ruled I will not be.

I don't know what I had to do to fix it.
Well then use the search button, have a look, and clue yourself in. It's been discussed several times recently on these forums.
