Nice work!  Good to see the old format back...  big_smile

Edit:  Seriously, Arch has always been what the community makes it.  So the community needs to step up and help.

Okay, that was sparse. I think I'll contribute something I've been mulling over for a while now...

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

In the closing, you wrote "We will return to our standard format next week"
I guess you meant next month.

And you fogot to post a news item about it.

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

You bring very good memories to me. I really liked to release weekly, but my ambitions got so great I started bi-monthly, then I wanted something more and that's how monthly came on.

The tough part was that sometimes I had to come up with the whole newsletter on my own, just to keep it going. So yeah, it will happen.

Who know, maybe one day I'll start contributing, that if the editor in chief lets me.

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

@ghost its not fair to blame the community when theres little communication. communication have to happen in public and not via email.

maybe it would be appropiate to set up some basic magazine rules, organize and communicate? in example:

* a solid release date
* a solid number of articles must have been asigned and finnished to release the magazine on the above date, if not, the magazine is not released until next month or until there is enough material and articles.
* assignation and communication happen in public through the wiki, mailinglist, a special forum or some other public place.
* open planing.
* etc etc

feel free to fill the list!

Ah! But there is public communication! Through these threads, the wiki, and the irc channel!

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

I for one am reluctant to write something for the magazine again. I still wait for an answer to my question about the whereabouts of last article I submitted. (and which has not been published yet)
No answer == No more articles from me!

What was the article on? I know I still have an article or two on backlog that haven't been proofread/edited for publishing yet, but a few of them I'm not sure the original author of. (Perhaps it would be a good idea for contributors to include their forum name on email communications? A few of my regulars I know by heart but there's more than a few contributions that I've had to email back the contributor and ask who the F$*! they are)

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

Ah I do recall that... During the transition between AUM and ALM and my following cross-country move I know a few submissions fell along the wayside... I'm sure I still have the original sources somewhere, I'll see if I can resurrect them. (BTW, email's not the most reliable way to get ahold of me, if you want a reply quickly get on IRC. I get an excess of 1000 emails a day, not including spam, on my main account alone)

Totally forgot it was deadline time. I suffered an interprovincial move myself and am just getting settled. I'll try to get a schwag report in next week or so.

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

@Ghost1227
Thanks for clearing that up. I can relate to having way too many emails smile Happens to me all the time.

If you are unable to find article, I will be more than happy to send it to you again. Sorry if my message seemed a bit harsh, but it gets frustrating when it seems nothing gets through to the recipient (in this case you).

I will think about what to write about next and give you a heads up. (have checked the wiki page you made, but didn't find anything I could relate to. No sense for me to write about something I have no idea about...;) )

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

zomg! i'm in the newsletter! thanks ghost, that was uplifting after seeing that bashnotify post slip out of "new posts" without a single reply hmm

this motivates me now.  do you think http://pbrisbin.com:8080/pages/screen_tricks.html would make a good article for next issue? i can rewrite/reformat as needed.

Re: Arch Linux Magazine, March 2010

To be honest, I prefer the old format. It's much more readable.

I second this.  This format with an additional article would be perfect, IMO.
