Its there in your var/cache/pacman/pkg/ folder.

Just run pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/xorg-server-1.7.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

Thats the version that came out just before the RC version of xorg

If it is a problem with fluxbox then I am not surprised that it is acting up. The last time fluxbox had an update was in september 2008. And that might be one of the reasons. On the other hand openbox, had an update as recently as february 2010. Seems like its time to move away from fluxbox... unfortunately.

But before I take the plunge, can anyone else confirm if it is happening with any other window manager or DE?

So so far,

xorg-server 1.7.5.901-1 HATES fluxbox 1.1.1-1
xorg-server 1.7.5.901-1 LOVES openbox

Anyone else, care to add more love, hate relationships? : )

xorg-server 1.7.5.901-1 LOVES fvwm

Anyone any idea how long it will take for an official solution(via normal pacman -Syu)?

Thats just the arch way.  Latest and greatest.  There is no stable.  You can at any time select a stable release of xorg-server by installing the package file (in my case, I stick with xorg-server-1.6.3.901-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz) with pacman -U pkgfile and then uncomment and add it to the IgnorePkg=  line in /etc/pacman.conf

You can have it fixed right now by bumping your xorg-server back a version (see previous post) and also there is a whole page on the wiki about downgrading packages.

I think he actually meant, how long it would take before upgrading to the newest, greatest and latest version of xorg-server wouldn't be a problem for those using a WM like fluxbox and a few others..

Re: Big Xorg-server problem :(

I can confirm the same problem in Fedora, and it is fixed by downgrading Fedora's xorg-server packages to 1.7.1 from 1.7.5

Thanks to sonoran on the Fedora forums, i came across this thread.

I can also confirm that it was only a problem with fluxbox, but that openbox worked well.  I am using the development version of fluxbox, 1.1.1, which as was pointed out, hasn't been updated in two  years.  Sigh, I've been using it forever, but maybe it is time to start migrating away.  <sniffle>.

Re: Big Xorg-server problem :(

A patch for this was submitted in my bug report and so far it seems to be working. I can happily say I am now running the new version of xorg just peachy. If you would like to test the patch yourself (and know how to compile packages via abs) then give it a try.

Warning this patch was submitted but has not been tested yet (as far as I know) so try it at your own risk!

First get the patch here:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18598?pr … org-server
Copy xorg-server from abs/extra to your build directory. Move the patch to that directory and issue this inside the xorg directory:

patch -p2 < xorg-server.patch

Build
Enjoy

P.S.
Thanks Gerardo for the patch big_smile

In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backward. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a very easy one, but people do not practice it much. In the everyday affairs of life it is more useful to reason forward, and so the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason synthetically for one who can reason analytically.  --Sherlock Holmes

Re: Big Xorg-server problem :(

Now I do notice that I don't have the same problem in Fedora rawhide on an i686 install.   It's running a higher version, 1.7.99.901.6 (probably customized for Fedora).   I don't know if I'm just lucky on this one, or if the later versions of xorg server have already fixed it.

(As mentioned in my earlier post, I have the identical problem on Fedora 12, which was fixed by downgrading from 1.7.5 something to 1.7.1 something.

EDIT

ARGH--I just updated rawhide and now xorg-server is at 1.7.99.901-10 and broken. I'm now guessing that these version numbers are a bit off (also, there were dates and the previous xorg server was from February while this one is from yesterday.)

Oh snap.

Re: Big Xorg-server problem :(

Unfortunately, the problem just got worse with the new xorg-server 1.7.5.901-2 and fluxbox 1.1.1. The mouse and keyboard are not working at all. I had to do switch off and switch on the computer again : (

Maybe this is an issue with fluxbox alone. Could anyone tell me if openbox is playing well with xorg-server 1.7.5.901-2? Cos, if it is, I think it is time to bed adieus and be done with fluxbox .. and install openbox.

Re: Big Xorg-server problem :(

Can anyone using Fluxbox confirm if it is playing well with xorg-server 1.7.5.901-2? On my box xorg-server 1.7.5.901-2 totally hates fluxbox. The keyboard and mouse are not working at all sad And what about openbox 3.4? Does it have any problems with xorg-server 1.7.5.901-2?
