Hi all,
After I upgraded to KDE 4.4 several things broke. As stated above DigiKam is missing libjpeg.so.7, this version of the lib is no longer supplied. The version I have on my system
is now libjpeg.so.8 (after a full system upgrade) The version of digikam is 1.1.0-2
The error I get when running digikam is:
digikam: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryAnyone have any ideas why things are out of sync? I have tried upgrading with different mirrors, but to no avail.
Also, not on topic, my ability to shutdown,logoff etc from the desktop does not do anything anymore, this stopped working after the upgrade too.
Thanks

Update: Since there are no replies to this I bit the bullet and installed the lib from AUR .. this got Digikam going ...
However I am still at a loss why a full upgrade doing pacman -Syy and pacman -Syu results in an broken dependancy for Digikam ... even after trying with multiple
different repository mirror sets ... is pacman broken??

It's not broken. Use a reliable mirror, like these
Server = http://mir.archlinux.fr/$repo/os/x86_64
Server = http://archlinux.limun.org/$repo/os/x86_64
Server = ftp://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/archlinux/$repo/os/x86_64Last edited by flamelab (2010-03-09 20:31:44)

Post your pacman -Qm.
You may need to rebuild some AUR packages; if you have cairo-lcd installed, that would be a good place to start...

simple, by using packages that are not supported and that should be the starting point. Is not a problem with the current digikam package but maybe with a dependency of digikam.
i suggest to remove that package (libpng12) and start finding the actual problem.
LD_DEBUG=files digikam > log 2>&1. grep it the log for libpng12, find out what files still links to it and pacman -Qo that_file
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Ok, What has libpng12 have to do with the price of fish?, my problem is with libjpeg:/
I do not have any unsupported packages installed that have anything to do with digikam or it's dependents .. that I know of.
@flamelab .. thanks, will try those mirrors ... at least the 32 bit versions ..
@jasonwryan .. will do so soon as I get home ..

Both are slippery, and go off if left out too long?

Sorry, bmentink, kdemod is beyond my ken. I would follow wonder's suggestion and look for the digikam dependencies that are from AUR that need to be rebuilt...

aur or from kdemod repo
which is unsupported here too
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Why is kdemod unsupported here, the desktop wiki shows you how to install it, so to my mind it should be supported too ..
But anyway, I fail to see how it has any relevance to the relationship between digikam and libjpeg.so.7 ..![]()
Cheers,

I think you are still having too much to drink .... but you go off and have a good sulk though .....:P oh, and "do what i told you" might have worked in Hitler's day ... but not in mine ![]()

Honestly, you've been told how to fix it. If you're not competent enough to use that, or learn from the 1000 other threads exactly like this, then maybe you should consider another distro.

That's the part you seem to not be following up on. And you may have to track through a couple levels of dependencies

... if you mean the statement "LD_DEBUG=files digikam > log 2>&1. grep it the log for libpng12, find out what files still links to it and pacman -Qo that_file"
then I havn't done that for the following reasons:
1. I don't know what he is trying to achieve, I like to understand before I go doing things to my system ..
2. e.g What does "LD_DEBUG=files" do? Does he mean to export an environment variable like: "export LD_DEBUG=files", in that case, what is "files" .. not clear ..
If I am incompetent because I did not understand the guy ... then we can all claim that ..
