[SOLVED] Gnome died out on me :(

This morning when I started my computer, Gnome wasn't working properly. I tried reisntalling GDM, but that didn't help. Seems that Gnome is not startin gproperly or something. The windows don't have the title panel, also, I get message "Your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager" when I press the button. I didn't change anything yesterday so I don't know why this is like this. I tried reinstall xorg-server to both the old and the recent version, did not help. Doesn't matter if I start Gnome from GDM or startx, same issue.

Ideas?

EDIT: cannot start gnome-session, gives error no display. Here is my xorg.conf which hasn't been modified since yesterday.

Maybe the window manager is not running for real? gnome forgot that it has to run it?
After you are in Gnome, open a console window and type in "metacity" see if that works

That did it. After logout, though, it happens again. How to automate it so that it runs metacity?
