Re: Ncmpcpp "Directory not found"

does mpd work? you can try it with mpc or other frontend

If you have configured mpd my creating a mpd user, make sure that user has read access to your music folder (and files)

Re: Ncmpcpp "Directory not found"

It's a mpd problem. Please post your mpd.conf file. I'm guessing your mpd has no permission to read the music files.

What I did, which worked (but is probably still not the best way to do it), was that I, in the the mpd.conf file, stated that I am the user of mpd (as I'm the only user on this PC) and then using chown, changed the ownership of the logfiles in /var to me. You have to re-chown those log files every time mpd updates; you can write a little shell script for that; either way, it won't be too much of a hassle.

Re: Ncmpcpp "Directory not found"

I added my music files to the audio group, but giving them read permission for "others" should work too.

Re: Ncmpcpp "Directory not found"

mojomagic, here's my mpd.conf file

# An example configuration file for MPD
# See the mpd.conf man page for a more detailed description of each parameter.

# Files and directories #######################################################
#
# This setting controls the top directory which MPD will search to discover the
# available audio files and add them to the daemon's online database. This
# setting defaults to the XDG directory, otherwise the music directory will be
# be disabled and audio files will only be accepted over ipc socket (using
# file:// protocol) or streaming files over an accepted protocol.
#
#music_directory "/home/niclas/music"
#
# This setting sets the MPD internal playlist directory. The purpose of this
# directory is storage for playlists created by MPD. The server will use
# playlist files not created by the server but only if they are in the MPD
# format. This setting defaults to playlist saving being disabled.
#
#playlist_directory "/var/lib/mpd/playlists"
#
# This setting sets the location of the MPD database. This file is used to
# load the database at server start up and store the database while the

Re: Ncmpcpp "Directory not found"

Why you keep #  in front of all the necessary required parameters (#music_directory ) remove the comment  symbol. IMHO better read the mpd wiki.

Re: Ncmpcpp "Directory not found"

Probaly because permisions problem mpd won't load mp3 from other dir than his home so i set:
music_directory         "/var/lib/mpd/music"
And than i bind my music dir to this folder:
/home/drmilosz/music /var/lib/mpd/music none bind

Also music dir must be owned by mpd user. That helped me, I hope it will help you too.
