[Solved] .Xdefault font string meaning?

I've seen a bunch of examples of font strings in .Xdefaults files, like the one
in the .Xdefaults wiki article:

xscreensaver.Dialog.headingFont: -*-fixed-bold-r-*-*-*-100-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1

However, I haven't been able to find an explanation of what the various fields mean. As far as I can tell, the second indicates the font, the third indicates the font style (bold, italic?), and the second to last indicates the keyboard layout. Can any give an explanation of what each field means?

Thanks,
Chris

Run "xfontsel" and you'll get a font-picking GUI where each of these fields happen to have headers identifying them.

There is also a Wikipedia article: X logical font description.

To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.
