OK, I know this is going to sound odd considering this is a forum.
Anyway, linuxquestions.org is a very popular Linux forum (42,000 members). Theres lots of people there that like to make the switch to Debian/Slckware/Gentoo, and when I mention Arch, most have never heard of it.
The admins over there like to have subforums for specific distros, but they like to get the consent of the distro developers. I think if you talked to them and get an Arch subforum, it would really increase our exposure. I think people just seeing the name and realizing Arch exists would be a plus.
You dont have to moderate the forum or anything, its handled by them.

I registered on linuxquestions.org and wanted to post the below "advertisement" on "Linux - Distributions" forum, but it requires to have minimum 5 posted posts to create a new thread. If you don't mind, would you like to post it? I noticed your are an active member. If you want to edit or add, please go ahead.

Subject: Arch Linux (AMLUG live 0.2) v0.5
To get an idea what's Arch Linux and how well it works (if not yet tried), try "Arch Linux (AMLUG live 0.2) v0.5" which boot runs completely from CD. If its to your liking, run "hd-install" and copy the entire CD to your Hard Drive (607Mb). Hwd-1.0 (hardware detect) will detect your vga card and sound and the configuration is copied to HD thereby having a running Arch Linux 0.5 on your machine with KDE-3.1.3, KOffice-1.2, Opera-7.11 and more. With pacman (AL's package manager) download your favorite programs (pacman -S <name of package>) and keep up with the latest versions by running "pacman -Su".

Well, honestly, Ive been "promoting" Arch Linux a lot, and I dont want to look like a spammer.
But just stick around the forums, im sure you can help 4 people out. You are certainly knowledgable enough.
And they are up to 46,000 members by the way.

By helping four people out I also learned more about Linux. I will continue to keep an eye on the LQ forums. Thanks.

Hey MasterC, great to see you here.
But I think I remember you saying: "APT is for the lazy."
rasat: Yeah, the forums are pretty packed. Which is why its good publicity.

Maybe.. But I say a lot of things that I eventually end up eating my words on
I have grown (no need for flames ) pretty acustomed to Gentoo and it's got the portage thing going on. I'm liking package management, as long as it's good. I personally can't stand RPM's but that's mostly because of poor ideas that go into them (like having package and package-devel 2 seperate things..).
I'm all for GOOD package management, which apt definitely represents. Combine that with high speed development for faster arch's (archlinux~slackware) and I'm all for it (hence the reason I wanna try it ).
Thanks for the welcome!

Actually it's not as bad as I've seen elsewhere. Not quite as many Gentoo 'zealots' as there are Slackware 'Zealots' but we have an increasing number of Deb 'Zealots' everyday.
Because of the massive number of people you get quite a diversity of distros, some of the time ones I've never heard of.

I put it in the wrong thread.
Sorry.

Please put up your dmesg output somewhere for us to gawk at, there's something terribly wrong.

This is great.
I really think this will increase Arch's visibility.
Now all we need is a cute animal mascot.

Congratulations guys! I've been suggesting this distro around a bit, to some slackers and a few others. Seems like some good stuff is brewing.

Nah, me and rasat figured it out... I wasn't really thinking at the time, my lappy is a 586 (pentium 100) No biggie, just hoping to get something really good on there, looks like I'm gonna have to settle with a lesser distro 8)
