I had to avoid using Firefox 1.0-1, and now Firefox 1.0-2, because of the fact that whenever I click "Open window in new tab", it doesn't go to the link, but just opens a new tab, not actually going anywhere. This is getting pretty annoying, and I did try using the PKGBUILD to download the source and make my own mozilla-firefox-1.0-1.pkg.tar.gz file, but this didn't change a thing.
The only way to remedy this is to downgrade to 0.9.3-2, which is the last working one. Also, as I just discovered, I can't use any of the arrow keys in 1.x. Useful.
Is this just my problem, or has anyone else experienced this?

Shouldn't behave like that- but it might be due to a dodgy extension you have installed (there are quite a few of them which hose javascript totally).
Did you try the "simple window" extension? AFAIK it works quite well.

It's a profile thing.
rm ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/compreg.dat

That did the trick.
Well done that man.

fwiw. this is the first thing you can try if firefox or plain old moz is acting funky. In the past people have suggested removing the entire dotdirectory but that wipes all of your bokkmarks and such.

Except extensions and themes, the only files worth backing up are:
bookmarks.html
cookies.txt
hostperm.1
key3.db
prefs.js
signons.txt
formhistory.dat

There's a preference in the firefox preference window: it allows you to set what you want to do with URLs opened by external programs. The default is to open in the last tab or window, what is the cause of your problems. Change the preference of it and it should work correctly.
