[Solved] Gstreamer backend, no audio output

Dear Archers
I am not getting any audio output with gstreamer phon-on backend. Last time (before my system crashed):|, when I had the same problem, I had changed to XINE.
Is Gstreamer, a WASTE? Do I have to install XINE again

Finally, installed XINE

Re: [Solved] Gstreamer backend, no audio output

You will need to install the plugin packs (good, bad, ugly) to play files with GStreamer. The base package of GStreamer doesn't include any plugins for codecs.
That said, I've had the same problem as you, even with all the plugin packs installed, so I'd just stick with the Xine backend. That works for me.

community/thoggen 0.7.1-4

Then pick and install the ones you want/need. Or I think you can do:

pacman -Sy gstreamer0.10-plugins

Re: [Solved] Gstreamer backend, no audio output

The simplest solution to get Gstreamer plugins would probably be to run

pacman -S gstreamer0.10-plugins

like mrunion suggested. Realistically you'll need all three Gstreamer plugin groups to play most files anyway. I know AAC files are covered under the ugly group, for example. If you want to see what gstreamer0.10-plugins package group is pulling in, you can use

pacman -Sg gstreamer0.10-plugins

instead.
But like I said earlier, from my experience that won't solve your problem, so if that doesn't work for you, just switch to the Xine backend in Phonon. That's your best bet.

Re: [Solved] Gstreamer backend, no audio output

Dear All

Thanks for your suggestions. I have loaded XINE and everything is fine.
I did not want to deviate from the KISS principle, by loading XINE and gstreamer both.
I have no choice.

I request the moderaters to pl. close this topic
