Arch linux CD won't boot

I tried both core and net install and booting process always stops at:

...
pci 0000:00:0a.1: PME# supported from D3hot D3cold
pci 0000:00:0a.1: PME# disabled

And that's it. Laptop gets gradually hotter, fans go crazy and I have to hold power button to shut the whole shebang down.

Re: Arch linux CD won't boot

I'd first try appending "noapic acpi=off" to the kernel parameters.

Thanks, but it did not help.

Re: Arch linux CD won't boot

I would really like to give Arch a try, especially since Ubuntu is such a pain, but if I cannot even boot the installation cd, the prospects are rather grim.

Re: Arch linux CD won't boot

I am sorry to say that, but even though Ubuntu seems to be annoying and inferior to Arch, it's forums are vastly more helpful and people don't usually ignore posts of new users encountering problems.

Re: Arch linux CD won't boot

I strongly doubt the lack of solutions given here have anything to do with people 'ignoring' your posts.  The more likely case being no one has any advice towards resolving the issue.

Instead of a solution I can suggest a workaround, which would be to install Arch via your existing Ubuntu installation.  This process is detailed in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … ting_Linux.

Re: Arch linux CD won't boot

That solution has a serious flaw. I would like to keep my Ubuntu for dualboot until Arch is fully functional and configured.

Re: Arch linux CD won't boot

The process described does not infer that your Ubuntu installation will be replaced.  It simply leverages the tools available from another GNU/Linux installation, much the same as the installation framework on the CD would.  To keep your Ubuntu and Arch installs in parallel, it would be sufficient to place Arch on a separate partition (i.e., replace /dev/sdxx with the device you wish to install Arch) and configure the existing bootloader accordingly.

In your case, I'd opt to omit the section entitled "Setup Grub", and instead edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst (assuming Ubuntu still utilises an older version of Grub) to reflect the location of the new Arch installation.

Re: Arch linux CD won't boot

Thanks. I will try that. I am using Grub2, which makes things a bit more tricky.
