Video Editor Problems

I'm trying to evaluate various video editors.  So far, the only one that doesn't crash frequently is OpenShot.   Kdenlive vanishes frequently for no reason, Cinelerra starts but wont stop until I kill it, PiTiVi won't import any file at all, Lives takes a 7 mb mpeg and converts is to a 147mb dv file - that's crazy!

I'm using Arch 64 with xfce4.  I've installed the gstreamer plugins and all codecs that I can find.  Recently, I installed VLMC from AUR but that crashes immediately.

I'm wondering if it would help to install Gnome but I'd rather get some opinions before I do that.  I've read on many forums that OpenSuse will run these programs with no burps but I like Arch and would prefer to stay here.

My goals with editing is to make short movies so the look of them is important.  I'd love to have After Effects but not at that price plus I don't need that much effects programming.

Thanks,
Burt

Re: Video Editor Problems

I'm not sure if this will help you at all but I've been playing around with Kdenlive in Gnome and it seems to be pretty stable. I haven't done extensive tests or anything just edited an .mkv video into a trailer (couple of fade outs, cross fade filters used nothing special). Also I'm using a 32 bit version of Arch so I have no idea if this means it will perform the same as a 64 bit version. Best of luck with what ever you decide to do.

Re: Video Editor Problems

you know that for PiTiVi you need to install gstreamer0.10-plugins?

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
