USB Arch Linux

I installed Arch Linux to a USB stick (16GB).  I wanna use Linux at home and at work.  My home computer has nvidia 220 and 1 27" and the one at work has 4350 with a 22 inch hooked to the HDMI port and a 17 hooked to dvi port.  On the main drive of both computers, it's running Windows 7, but I have created a 2gb partition for SWAP in gparted.

USB drive
/boot ext2 100mb
/ ext4 no journal REST of space

Been looking here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _a_USB_key

1) I have no SWAP partition setup, I want it to be setup in /etc/fstab to search for any available SWAP partition on any drive on the machine and use that.  I have not found any info yet.
2) nouveau uses an xorg.conf, ati open source driver doesn't, but it can.  What would be the best way to setup my install to support both if I want to autostart GDM using the 5 option after my kernel line?  Is there a way to use the nvidia blob and ati, have them installed at the same time?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
3) At work, the best configuration I could get for my monitors is that they both mirror the same thing, I don't know how to setup where the right monitor (17"), is just an extension of my 22".  I have this up with the nvidia configuration tool, but not the ATI.

I will update the Wiki with any pertinent information.

Re: USB Arch Linux

I've set up arch on USB. But for video I didn't use proprietary drivers and I'm able to boot with many brand of computers.
Sound it's also a bit of an issue, but doesn't bother me much. I use the USB thing for recovery or backup unmounted system. smile

Re: USB Arch Linux

That's what I want to do too, use the open source drivers.  I'm guessing having a SWAP partition is no too important, since I have 2GB and 4GB on the machines.

Re: USB Arch Linux

SWAP could be used, if hibernate is used. A little script on rc.local can find and setup the swap.

Re: USB Arch Linux

Perhaps use swap file instead...
