Age of Mythology: Can't connect to ESO

I have installed Age of Mythology The Titans (original CD) and updated to 1.03. Everything works fine except that I can't connect to ESO (as soon as I push the login button it jumps immediatelly with an error telling "Cannot connect to ESO").

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there any workaround?
