killing bmpanel kills X?

Title says it all, I kill bmpanel and my X shuts down and slim restarts X and I get to the login screen.  I'd rather just stay in my X server when bmpanel was killed, any thoughts?

I'm using the transpy theme if that means anything

How are you starting bmpanel (.xinitrc I presume)
