[SOLVED]KDE login loop

I installed arch today following the beginners guide to the letter, then kdemod packages. Everything ran smoothly until I get to the kdm login screen, there I input my login and password and kdm restarts and asks me for login and password, again and again.

So I tried to disable kdm from daemons and load it via startx after I succesfully logged in, kde starts loading (the hard drive image appears and mouse too) but then it crashes and takes me to the console again.

Dont know what info or files to provide here so just ask and I will paste them here for you (I will need help with that too, how to put a file here if my arch installation isnt graphical at the moment and i have to respond to this posts from another computer).

I read the wiki KDE article and didnt found anything to solve the problem, If I get this solved I will do an article and contribute to the wiki so other people benefit from it.

regards and thanks in advance for the help.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE login loop

If you can successfully log in with your user password on the console, the it tells me that there's a problem with X. Did you set up a xorg.conf file?

Re: [SOLVED]KDE login loop

Install qimageblitz.

I had the same problem, maybe the kdemod people forgot to add it as a dependency.

Now if I can only get plasma to stop crashing.

Re: [SOLVED]KDE login loop

skottish, I do setup a xorg.conf file according to the begginers guide, and tested with xterm before installing Kdemod

smpolymen, thanks I will check if your solutions works and come back with results.

Also I found this on the Chakra-project wiki:

KDM rejects login / KDE doesnt start up but sends you back to KDM

    * You need to have the hal daemon in the DAEMONS array in rc.conf
    * Don't start hal backgrounded
    * Maybe you are experiencing this bug. Running these commands could solve it:

sudo groupadd -g 81 dbus
sudo useradd -u 81 -G dbus -d '/' -s /bin/false dbus

Its in the Frequently encountered problems section, link is http://www.chakra-project.org/wiki/inde … d_Problems

Im going to try this fixes tonight and come back with results
