It would depend on which wm or de you are using.

Re: How do I add a menu item to start a terminal program

In any WM or DE, when you add an entry to the menu, you specify the command. So, just use the command to open the desired program in a new terminal window. For instance, to add "vim", since I use the "urxvt" terminal emulator...

urxvt -e vim

If you use terminator it would be "terminator -e vim", etc.

Well in openbox, you edit /home/whatever/.config/openbox/menu.xml, but because you haven't specified a WM or DE, I can't help

Re: How do I add a menu item to start a terminal program

Thanks folks,

Sorry, It's KDE. I want to be able to open a command line DVORAK keyboard tutor in the terminal from the menu. I was writing it on my DVORAK keyboard, big mistake as it takes ages to write a post at the mo. Normally I do give a bit more info...

Re: How do I add a menu item to start a terminal program

right/alternate click the menu icon in kde, then click menu editor. Then you can make your own shortcut

Re: How do I add a menu item to start a terminal program

I am back home now so I can try it. Nice one austin.rbn, it was just that kind of feeding one command in to another I was after. In my case konsole -e dvorakng opens a console and starts the command line keyboard tutor.

Thanks

Scott

Re: How do I add a menu item to start a terminal program

you could still create a menu shortcut for that if you want. I have several like that. Example
I have vim set to open with xterm by a menu shortcut that I then placed on the bar for quick access

Sorry, I meant konsole -e dvorakng as a menu item.

Cheers orphius,
