Booting from DVD

I have encountered a new problem with regards to booting a livecd. I have installed Arch, and have been using it for more than 2 months. I did the following steps:
- I inserted a LiveCD into my DVD drive.
- Restarted Arch.
- In the BIOS screen, I selected Boot from DVD.
The problem I came across:
After doing the above steps, my screen turns black, and nothing happens. I tried it with every single LiveCD I have, and had the same problem.
Is there a way to overcome this? If it won't run LiveCDs then I'm not sure if it'd allow me to re-format my laptop into installing Arch all over again.
