I want to share files with my brother over the net. He uses Windows.
A ssh-server cannot be set up on windows without cygwin, and ftp is too insecure (and too un-nerdy )
Is there a p2p(ish) service that can be easily set up, is secure and runs on both platforms. Maybe a rsync server?

Why not?
Just did a quick google search and found at least three different ssh server apps for windows just on the front page that dont use cygwin.

yeah, but even these solutions aren't that elegant. As I imagine I have access to the windows pc through a windows shell? Not very confortable.
I'll try torrent for sure, didn't think of that. When I got more time, I'll try setting up a vpn, but it seems like a lot work..
thanks for your responses so far, they were very helpful.

I have lighty on my box as well as sshd - my friend can download files over ssl from lighty, and push files using winscp.
Anyway, DC++ would be good for you.
