Virtualbox dkms and Arch

Why is there no dkms in Arch? Wiki atleast does not make any mention about installing it during VB setup. Any ideas?

Re: Virtualbox dkms and Arch

No Primarily http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02.html#id2514936 look under "The VirtualBox kernel module". I have seen almost all distros have dkms support but did not find how to install it in Arch. ALso isn't it good enuf to install "All distributions" i.e the one with  .run over the AUR one. What is the advantage of one over the other.

Re: Virtualbox dkms and Arch

You could adopt and update this one http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=11657 if you know how to edit PKGBUILDs.

Re: Virtualbox dkms and Arch

Ahh no wonder I did not find it maintained. Users have two choices now, either keep ur memory sharp and recompile vb on kernel change or take care of PKGBUILD. Thanks flamelab. What about my 2nd question i.e using Generic installer from vb the one wiht .run ext vis-a-vis using AURs and all that. Does the .run take care of vb kernel modules on kernel updation? Senior users of vb can explain a good and hassle free way to get all setup and running.
