Problems with epson 3170 perfection scanner

Hi everyone,

I use this scanner.
I already installed it when I were using ubuntu, and I remember it worked with vuescan, but gave really awful results: unable to scan 6x7 or 24x36 color negatives with viewable results, no sharpness with 24x36 slides... only 6x7 slides scans were acceptable...

Some people said me it's the drivers...

I installed iscan from AUR, and of course sane and xsane.

It's the kind of scanners that make me believe that film photography is definitely not made for scanning, but for printing.
(and no existing scanner can give the results a microscope can give with a film...)

Scanimage -L returns:

scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

sane-find-scanner returns:

sane-find-scanner

I don't really know what to do.
When xsane starts it don't recognize anything.

Must I rather try wine with wi***ows drivers?

/etc/udev/rules.d/ has not some sane folder... somebody advised me to look this
