Since my update to 2.28 didn't go so smoothly, I thought I'd ask some others out there before I hit "y" to my system update this time. How was your update from 2.28 to 2.30? Anything snags, tips/tricks you'd like to share?

you might want to be more specific on where the problems are.
personally i didn't had any problems updating to this version.

No problems so far here.

Actually, I'm having trouble accessing samba shares with Nautilus. Whenever I click in the "Network" button, then in "Windows Network", the program hangs for a long time and give me this error:
Sorry, could not display all the contents of "Windows Network": DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply:
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. It was working find before upgrading to Gnome 2.30. I have no idea how I can fix it, so any help would be appreciated.

samba problem:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18908
for me that problem is not very frequently. it happens only sometimes.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Force downgrade to an older version of "smbclient".
This version seems to work fine for me: (From Arch Rollback Machine)

I had a problem with autoloading compiz, but nothing more (so far and I hope that is all I had to resolve
)

I have a problem with metacity, whenever I right-click on the title bar, it hangs whole screen, I can only switch to console and killall -9 metacity. Downgrading to metacity 2.28.1 solve the problem.
Lotus Notes doesn't work at all with gtk2 2.20, but I solved that by downloading gtk2 2.18.1, extracting it to separate folder and adjusted gtk path for LN and it works like a charm.
In the keyboard indicator there are too small fonts, dunno why.
That's it, nothing else seems to be broken.

Apparently, only downgrading "smbclient" didn't worked. Now I can see some machines when I click on "Network", but once I click on them, it waits for a very long time and returns the same error message.

The gvfs hangs with samba should be fixable by unlocking your gnome-keyring before attempting to connect. Somehow libgnome-keyring goes into a 100% CPU usage loop when the keyring isn't unlocked.

I don't like the new icons.
EDIT: I wish my trash can was made out of glass.
EDIT 2: Actually it isn't glass, it's a wire basket, but the res was too low to see it.

Personally, I'd rather be back in Hobbiton.

Some I like, others not so much. Overall, they don't seem to be much of an improvement, but I'll adjust to them eventually.

And how can I do this?

In what repo lurks GNOME 2.30?
It's in "extra" if that's what you mean... otherwise, it should be available from all mirrors that have synced since yesterday.

Im using the extra repo, but theres no updates?

If you open a PDF with evince 2.30 and then disable the sidebar, next time you open another pdf it'll be there again. If you open the same PDF it will be there for some miliseconds and then disappear. Is there anyway to disable the sidebar by default? :X

Maybe your mirror hasn't synced since yesterday. You'll need to try another mirror or wait for your current mirror to catch up.
Edit: You can check here for mirror status:

Generally looks ok. I have lots of love for Nautilus finally having split view like we have in KDE. That said, I've now moved to KDE and I'm staying there ![]()
Please be patient, I'm a n00b on Arch (only 2 years on Ubuntu) so I may say something stupid!
PS thank you to all those who contribute awesomeness to the AUR and the main packages, you guys have made my computer so much more fun to use!
