I have quite a few NAs which have a list of filename extensions to match and find that when the spaces get added the NA itself becomes disabled. Edit: The "space" problem's known about and should be fixed soon.

I've noticed a little annoying problem recently with the new layout daemon. Sometimes it stucks on a particular layout and doesn't show a different layout I switch to. I type in a different layout when it shows the previous one. This lasts for a minute or so, and then everything works normally.

I have the same problem with the layout daemon, the default keyboard layout is USA but the keyboard i actually use has a german layout. It sometimes doesn't show DE layout in the systray area even if its activated it's stuck to USA. How can i change the default from USA to DE without making system-wide changes through the locale settings in rc.conf ? The daemon doesn't remember the last layout i used and reverts to the default on every login, thats annoying.

Am i the only one which has problems with gnome-settings-daemon. Sometimes instantly my theme becomes to raleigh, panel becomes gray, nautilus shows text below icons in toolbar. when i open appearance dialog the theme comes back to normal? and this happens randomly

I agree. The new icons are horrible. It really annoys me the need to constantly change icons with upgrades. Talk about the appearance of change without any real change. And what's the point of having themes and appearance options, if the developers are going to force a new set of icons on you anyway?

Does anyone know if there's a way to get the old icons back and custome install them?

[Edit: I found two solutions to the icon issue.

1) This old Gnome theme gets you almost entirely back to the look of 2.28: http://art.gnome.org/download/themes/ic … me.tar.bz2.

2) Some icons in the menus and the GDM login screen are not effected by switching to that theme. So I went for the more radical solution of downloading the old gnome-icon-theme package from the arch rollback machine: http://arm.konnichi.com/extra/os/i686/g … pkg.tar.gz. However pacman wouldn't let me install it, because of dependency issues, even using the force parameter (I don't really get why I couldn't force install it). So instead I just deleted all the folders and files from /usr/share/icons/gnome and copied the files from the corresponding folder in the gnome-icon-theme-2.28.0-1-any.pkg.tar.gz package. Everything is now back as it should be.]

[Edit 2: Something that perplexes me about the new icons is: How come on the Gnome release notes pages for 2.30 the icons pictured in images of the desktop seem to be the old icons? See: http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.30/. It looks like the trash icon, show-desktop icon, forward and back icons in the toolbar are all the same as 2.28. But when I upgraded those were all changed. Makes me wonder if 1) it was just something weird on my system 2) the Arch package has the wrong icons in it somehow.]

That aside, if I want to revert to my old system (I have a backup image) and not upgrade Gnome for now, how can I exclude Gnome upgrades without stopping all upgrades? Is there a meta gnome package to block in pacman.conf?

I noticed another issue with 2.30. I had edited /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi so ctrl-alt-backspace would work to restart X. This no longer has any effect. Apparently with Gnome you have to set ctrl-alt-backspace in the keyboard layout preferences, as explained here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … n.27t_work.

I've been having an issue with gnome-settings-daemon since before I switched from Ubuntu (2009). Seemingly randomly at login (GDM and now XDM) the theme will be changed (not sure to which one). Bringing up the "Appearences" dialogue will partially fix it, logging back in usually always restores it.

Hmm, how do you start Compiz? I start it via fusion-icon and sometimes I get the standard Gnome theme on startup...

In the Arch wiki there's a section about starting Compiz in Gnome without the fusion-icon. I'm using this "without" method. I was having problems with fusion-icon (I can't remember what they were).

Big thanks, didn't realize that this method is working again (since it stopped working after the 2.30 upgrade ). But now it's working again and seems not to crash any more!
