Re: Unable to install xorg.... [SOLVED]

If you are sure you are not installing something, just do as the tip says and delete the file. This is probably safe in most cases, I've done it a hundred times. Welcome to Arch btw, hope you like it!

sudo rm /var/lib/pacman/db.lck

Re: Unable to install xorg.... [SOLVED]

Have you synced the database as the wiki suggests?

# pacman -Syy

Re: Unable to install xorg.... [SOLVED]

::syncronizing package databases...
error: failed retreving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirror optus.net : connection timmed out

The second line keeps repeating itsself so i assume it keeps trying.

Re: Unable to install xorg.... [SOLVED]

Try enabling another server in the pacman mirrorlist, just edit /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Re: Unable to install xorg.... [SOLVED]

It seems you didn't read the Beginners' Guide. I'd suggest you stop what you're doing, read the guide, then complete the various steps that you missed - barzam's suggestions above will be among them.
