[SOLVED] Suspend hangs at "98smart-kernel-video"

On my laptop I use pm-suspend bound to a key to suspend because I have not yet gotten suspend on lid close to function. Anyway, it was working perfectly up until a couple of days. I did run an update the day it broke but looking at my pacman log I don't see anything that might have broken it, it was only like tzdata and a couple of other presumably unrelated packages. I can get the full list if anyone wants.

Anyway, when I try to suspend it using the pm-suspend command, it appears to do nothing, though my network connection goes out (and cannot be restarted) This is the pertinant portion of my pm-suspend.log:

/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/00powersave suspend suspend: success.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/01grub suspend suspend: not applicable.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/11netcfg suspend suspend: success.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/49bluetooth suspend suspend: not applicable.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager suspend suspend: success.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/75modules suspend suspend: not applicable.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/90clock suspend suspend: not applicable.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/91wicd suspend suspend: success.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/94cpufreq suspend suspend: success.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/95led suspend suspend: not applicable.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98smart-kernel-video suspend
suspend: /usr/lib/pm-utils/functions: line 51: 2830 Terminated $

Note that the final line does not appear until I lose patience and send the shutdown signal.

I'm running the 2.6.32 kernel, 64bit, Nvidia GeForce G 105M graphics card with the binary nvidia drivers. Not sure what other info you might need. Anyway, I really appreciate the help. I lug my laptop around with me everywhere and even though boot times are great on linux it's still a hassle to have to shut it down and turn it back on everytime I want to go somewhere.

Re: [SOLVED] Suspend hangs at "98smart-kernel-video"

I think this has somethign to do with the newest nvidia update, I have exactly the same problem since a few days!
It will hang forever at "98smart-kernel-video".

When I suspend it from TTY after killing the nvidia module, it will cause much trouble waking up again.
I think it was broken by an update.

My Kernel is 2.6.32, x86_64, nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+.

That problem has never happened with Nouveau, and ever since I have migrated to the proprietary driver, the problems
were there. First it took an unusual long time to suspend, and when I woke it up, the Mainboard made an error sound and
programs refused to start with either "IO error" or "bus error" - Today it wouldn't wake up at all, making Mainboard beeps
and dead displays.

Re: [SOLVED] Suspend hangs at "98smart-kernel-video"

Well, I checked with pacman and it seems that my last update of the nvidia package was on 23 March. What confuses me is that it appears to have actually been downgraded:

[2010-03-23 18:43] upgraded nvidia (195.36.08-1 -> 190.53-1)

A query of the package confirms that I am now using 190.53-1 however the package database lists the current version as 195.36.15.
I just ran -Syu and I seee that there's a significant amount of packages in there- and nvidia is one of them. So I will do the upgrade and report back. Hopefully this was a weird fluke and that's it!

This is a problem with the grep package, it has been discussed 10 times already. Use the search.

You need to install an RTFM interface.

I did use the search, thanksmuch. There's really no need to be snotty when someone's asking for help.

Okay, I did finally find the bugfix for this, though I had to add grep to the search to find it so... yeah. That's why I didn't find it before. Anyway, downgraded grep to 2.6.1 and suspend is functioning again!

Aw, I just added it to my pacman ignore list. Heh heh, oh well.
