Disable Knotify4 - or - use xfce4-notifyd instead of knotify

Hi all,

I'm using xfce4-panel with its notification area and xfce4-notifyd (which is used by some panel-plugins).
I am also using kopete and akregator, which are using knotify4 for their status pop-ups etc. The problem is that knotify crashes everytime when xfce4-notifyd wants to show a notification.
Is there a way to disable knotify? I want only xfce4-notifyd running.

Vlad

I had the same problem and solved it rather crudely by deleting /usr/bin/knotify4 ...

HAHAHA, yes!
I thought about this, but it's not a real solution.

chmod -x for the binary is less crude but still quite crude

Yep, that's what I did. I changed the execute permission of knotify. But this is not a solution.
Is there a way to turn knotify off through kde?

Dirty workarounds.
On my laptop I use cuteinformer and on my desktop I use colibri. So I can use xfce-panel without xfce4-notifyd, but still have knotify app notifications.

PS: The problem with chmod -x on knotify is that you lose all kde app notifications.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but knotify is causing huge troubles for me, consuming huge amounts of memory. I think in pclinuxos they use gnome notifications instead of knotify4, so can anyone point me to a real solution like that?

Re: Disable Knotify4 - or - use xfce4-notifyd instead of knotify

Sorry for dredjing an old thread but now with systemd it has become so much easier :-

[$] sudo systemctl disable kde.knotify.service

After doing this see :-

[$] cat /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.kde.knotify.service
[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.kde.knotify
Exec=/usr/bin/knotify4%

The service is disabled.
