Hi!
I'm new to Arch, and 'relatively' new to Linux. But i'm a software IT, so i learn easy.
I've managed to install and configure Arch both with Gnome and KED, but i can't find a console or terminal in either on them... This way, i can't install anything else and/or keep my system update... I'd really like to learn more about Arch and see if it really is that fast as i've heard...
So... Can anyone give me a tip, or two...
P.S: BTW, adding a shortcut to the context menu would be nice too (in Gnome).

In KDE: Alt+F2 -> type konsole -> enter -> profit
Dont know whats the default terminal emulator in Gnome but steps are all the same.
How come you can't find a Konsole or Terminal ?
Do you have X Server running?
Any desktop environment running corectly ?
TTY's are working? If not see http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … n.27t_work
* To switch to Console mode
Press 'Ctrl + Alt + F1' (F2 - F6)
* To switch between consoles in Console mode
Press 'Alt + F1' (F2 - F6)
* To switch back to GNOME/KDE mode
Press 'Alt + F7'
Gnome uses a terminal emulator called : gnome-terminal
KDE -=- : konsole

maybe you forgot to install gnome-terminal?
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

If you installed the whole xorg package you have xterm.

I knew that... But if i do that, my host (Mint) will get the input, not the VM...
Yes, XServer is up and running, or i wouldn't even have KDE or Gnome.
Iv'e manged to have both running. (one at a time. i can switch how many times i want).

Maybe you're right...
Turns out, i didn't have that package installed...
I did what n0dix proposed and got an error saying that package wasn't found... So i installed it...

Thanks n0dix.
That didn't work, but i sure DID help.
I found out i didn't have gnome-terminal installed... I thought that came by default...
Anyways... Now i have it installed and all, but it just won't start...
Might have to do with my system going down while installing the first time... In order to get it to install again i had to delete tons of files which were showing as errors during installation. But now, it installs and removes flawlessly, so it 'should' work...
Might i have 'broken' something?...

Install lxterminal and try to execute gnome-terminal through lxterminal.

Install lxterminal and try to execute gnome-terminal through lxterminal.
When i click the Gnome Console shortcut, an icon appears in the 'taskbar' but it goes way after bout 10sec...
When i click the lxterminal, nothing happens...
Weird... Maybe i'll try a clean reinstall.

So, you are trying to install Arch in a Virtual Machine? This is what I deduce from the above post, if so then you need to configure your Virtual Machine Hypervisor to accept input for those shortcuts;
Please provide enough information when you start asking questions. ( http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html )
But I don't know how can you install Gnome without installing gnome-terminal or KDE without konsole; sounds weird too me;
So I recommend to read the wiki, if you didn't do that by now :
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Off … tall_Guide
Have Fun.

Check in .xsession-errors in your ~ about errors during the launch of the terminals.
You could launch the terminals through tty, but I don't remember the command which redirects the output to an existing X session instead of the X-less tty window.

Off-topic, but useful, If you are using VirtualBox, you can send "ctrl+alt+f1" to a vm by hitting "host+f1", where "host" is the key you hit to toggle input capture, by default, it's "right-ctrl".

Found the following lines, which might be relevant, but i dont exactly know how to solve the problem...
kbuildsycoca4(2943) KBuildSycoca::createEntry: new: "/usr/share/applications/gnome-terminal.desktop"
kbuildsycoca4(2943)/kdecore (services) KServicePrivate::init: The desktop entry file "/usr/share/applications/gnome-terminal.desktop" has Type= "Application" but no Exec line
kbuildsycoca4(2943) KBuildServiceFactory::createEntry: Invalid Service : "/usr/share/applications/gnome-terminal.desktop"
