Hey. So I check out the Arch Wiki Compiz page, followed what it said there but can't seem to get the compiz effects to work. I've since uninstalled it, but I will try it again. I'm using gnome, I don't want to use any emerald themes, just the compiz effects - so I want to keep GTK running as it is now. Can anyone run me through what I need to do? Cheers.

Which effects did you actually enable?

@Sly, did you have direct rendering? glxinfo | grep direct
Post your log file, Xorg.0.log.
Btw, for default, compiz plugins doesn't run automatically, like suggest @Loafer.

did you install fusion-icon and ccsm?

Yeah, I selected the effect option from ccsm.
Cheers for taking a look.

Silly question, but are your video drivers working ok? Can they handle compiz? You also may want to change the title to be more specific

They seem to be working fine. As for can they handle Compiz, I would assume so. I'm using an ATI 4870x2 with the xf86-video-ati driver.

Hmmm - not that I know much about it - but I always thought that the xf86-drivers couldn't handle the 3d-effects from compiz - you need the propriatory drivers! (of course, I might well be wrong!)

Thanks for the info, can anyone confirm this?

The open-source drivers up to r500 can handle compiz fine, for r600+ you might need development versions of the drivers.

I have a r600 and it works really fine with compiz. The open source driver supports 3d accleration, but not since a long time...

even sillier question. did you enable the effects by opening fusion-icon or the command compiz --replace
