Do not reply to spam!

Do not reply to spam EVER.  Just hit the report button on the bottom right and the moderators will respond ASAP.  Replying to spam just makes the clean-up more difficult for us.

Hmmm...  maybe we should consider anyone reply to spam as a promoter of spam and ban them too...

*raises hand*

Guilty, sorry. I was not aware that this was the expected behaviour w.r.t spam, would have expected that the whole thread (with replies) could be just deleted.

Re: Do not reply to spam!

The whole thread is usually deleted.  But as happened today, the spammer opened a second account to "help" there spam seem legitimate and I had to go through all the posts to check for other accounts to ban.

@Allan

How can I identify a message as SPAM?  I've never seen this before here in the forum.

Thanks.

You will know if you see it.  We clean these things up very quickly so it is good that you never see it.

Ok, but I don't want to be naive to reply and been banned due to something I had no intention to take part of.
Thanks anyway.

Re: Do not reply to spam!

One problem with replying to spam is that it keeps on raising the spam back to the top which is exactly what the spammers like to see happen.  Using the Report post link doesn't do that, so that's the way to go.

Guilty. Please don't ban me but feel free to purge the thread smile

Re: Do not reply to spam!

I propose this thread be stickied and then locked (for obvious reasons). Or at least the forum wiki be updated. Should I post a bug-report?

I'm for the thread being stickied, but I would like to see the posts cleaned through as well as locking.
