Rhythmbox doesn't show ipod

My ipod shows up on thunar but not on rhythmbox and gtkpod.  I've tryed the 'Load ipod(s)' button on gtkpod and the 'Scan removable media' on rhythmbox, but to no avail.

Did you check if you have an error when running Rhythmbox?

(rhythmbox:9178): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to start mDNS browsing: mDNS service is not running

Is all I get as far as error messages, don't know why a DNS dameon would have anything to do with the computer recognizing my ipod.

Run Rhythmbox with sudo. If the ipod is shown probably a problem with permissions.
