broadcom-wl -> b43 (2.6.33 iwlist scan works but nm-applet doesn't)

Hi all,
after the update today deprecating my broadcom-wl from AUR  (the new patched version doesn't work anyway) I decided to switch to in kernel b43.
Since KDEmod failed to keep up with Arch I've switched to awesome (will probably ditch it anyway) and so I can't test with that my.
So now I'm using nm-applet in awesome.

Dmesg says something like: "b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 478.104 (2008-07-01 ..)" as the last line
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan works

but nm-applet (launched as root don't know how it's done by kdm am using xinitrc at the moment) says "device not ready" and in /var/log/everything.log it says
something like "NetworkManager: trying to load supplicant"

Even though iwlist scan shows that it must somehow be working I just can't get it to work with nm-applet.

After a reboot "sudo iwlist wlan0 scan" fails and dmesg shows

Just to make sure that was not the first reboot after kernel upgrade!

Re: broadcom-wl -> b43 (2.6.33 iwlist scan works but nm-applet doesn't)

Ok using broadcom-wl-patched + b43-firmware-newest from AUR and cleaning all the modules up and rebuilding all of the AUR packages I'm back with working iwlist scan but still no luck with nm-applet it still shows "device not ready", wlan is now eth0 but "sudo ifconfig eth0 up" seems to have no effect.

EDIT: Now wicd works but I'd really like networkmanager because it handles openvpn quite well and I need that for university

Ok am running Xfce now started from xinitrc and it seems all is fixed, though I really hate to have a tainted kernel. Stupid broadcom...

Re: broadcom-wl -> b43 (2.6.33 iwlist scan works but nm-applet doesn't)

I did the change today from broadcom-wl to b43 and I had a similar problem. I tried to manually connect to the WPA without any success. I finally tried netcfg and I found that the profile was using eth0, instead of wlan0. Now is working.

I hope you can get it resolved.

Btw I had to upgrade because for the new kernel 34, the broadcom card has dependencies issues so pacman would not upgrade. So I decided to change. I have a BCM4312 (( with low power, so it is supported by b43 )).
