Can't run session after upgrade

So I did a update last night a a good chunk of packages since installing my system a few weeks ago.  Now I can't start Gnome or Openbox sessions.   I can still start X by changing my ~/.xinitrc to do "exec xterm".  Any ideas here on what broke during hte update?

Re: Can't run session after upgrade

launch your WM as 'exec ck-launch-session wm' in .xinitrc

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Can't run session after upgrade

I guess you can try reinstalling your gnome desktop with pacman -Sy gnome-desktop or you can try installing xfce for now.

Re: Can't run session after upgrade

I had a problem starting a KDE session after I upgraded, too. I eventually figured out that installing the openssl-compatibility package would fix that for me. (It was more of a lucky guess.) Try it out and see if it works.

EDIT:
I failed to mention that this is an AUR Package: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36308.

Re: Can't run session after upgrade

ck-launch-session didn't work.

installing openssl-compatibility didn't work.

openbox does same thing.

i reinstalled gnome, gdm, hal, dbus, pam, gnome-session, openssl to no avail.

i can start gnome as root. i made a new user and can start gnome okay, but i get the same session errors in console.

Errors are below, anymore ideas?  I suppose i could abandon this user account to get gnome back, but I would like to solve these errors too.

Re: Can't run session after upgrade

I deleted my user account including the files.  I can run gnome-session again, but the errors still happen.  Any ideas?

Re: Can't run session after upgrade

I am having the same problem after a system upgrade yesterday.
When starting my gnome-session it very loads slowly. Compiz starts but is extremely slow and not all functions work. The compiz wallpapers all load and the cube rotates but is very sketchy.
The gnome panel is all white with no icons. When clicking on the panel where my launch icons would be it apperars the aplication lauches but the window is all white.
Here is the root window error message:
WARNING: Unable to determine session: Unable to lookup session information for process[xxxx].
(I dont remember the process number.)

No problem when starting gnome-session under a different user.
No problem when starting fluxbox.

I think I had this same problem while running ubuntu Jaunty last year., which caused me to switch to Arch.

I would also love to find a solution for this.

Re: Can't run session after upgrade

I ended up fixing the problem by disableing KMS.
