I just installed Freeciv from [extra], but can't get it to work. The menu appears, but clicking anything like "Start New Game", "Start Scenario Game" or "Connect to Network Game" just makes the menu hang.
I guess it's a bit related to this bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=572990
The solutions mentioned in the link above does not work either. When trying to connect to the server with "freeciv-gtk -a" I get the error "Connection timed out".
I have iptables running, but not blocking anything, and a nmap of the port the server is running on returns "filtered".
Also I checked if my computer was set up to use IPv6 Binding only (cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/bindv6only) but this returned 0, so this should be OK.
My computer is not connected to the Internet, so the only active interface is lo.
UPDATE: When connected to a WLAN (using NetworkManager) with internet access, there is no problem at all starting a game.
UPDATE #2: After a quick "ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" and "ifconfig eth0 up", the game started as normal. Before this, I couldn't even ping localhost, and also Freecol had problems connecting to local server. I guess the TCP/IP stack wasn't loaded or something.
