Brother HL-3040CN

Installed cups. downloaded hl3040cncupswrapper-1.1.1-4.i386.rpm, rpmextracted it, copied to /usr but I still cannot print.

What do I need to install in order to print to this network attached printer?

I hade major problems with the supplied binaries that are avalible for my HL-2170W. I think mine had hardcoded paths to /usr/local/bin ... or something. Here's what I did to get my HL-2170W working.

You should be able to modify your install of the PPD to match my install listed in the wiki. You will need your printers PPD file, this file shows cups what features are available on your printer. On Step 6 (in the wiki, use the link I provided) use this PPD file: http://www.openprinting.org/ppd-o-matic … 0CN&show=0.

All things related to your printer and Linux can be researched from the OpenPrinting web site.

IIRC you need to go to the /usr/local/Brother directory and as root run the two scripts there, then set it up in CUPS using socket://192.168.0.104:9100 as the path (where "192.168.0.104" is whatever the IP address to your printer is...

That never worked for me ... at least the scripts for my printer ... it always seemed to be stuck in A4. Until I just switched everything to foomatic.

I just installed it following one of the tutorials in wiki for Brother printers.
