Init scripts halting since kernel upgrade

Since the upgrade to 2.6-33 (Arch64), my laptop is experiencing strange behaviour.  If I boot or shut down when my laptop is running on battery power, the machine keeps halting.  If I flick the WiFi on/off switch, it continues processing for a short while but I need to constantly switch the WiFi off and on in order to be able to boot or shutdown.  Alternatively, I can plug in the AC power cable and it will continue to work as it should.

I don't think that the problem is related to the WLAN module as I have tried booting using no module, using the NDiswrapper module and using the ath5k module that I normally use with my ar5007.  In the meantime, the only thing I can do is revert to 2.6-32.

Unfortunatly the resoultion was the same, downgrade the kernel to 2.6.32 and remove then reinstall nvidia packages which are compatible with this kernel
